Is it possible to get an actual FREE credit score?

It is possible, but the internet does not make it easy.

You will find thousand of “free” credit score options.  Here is what you need to know.  All of these scores you need to consider them as rough estimates of what you actually are.  Reason being, you may be looking at a Vantage score or one of the FICO models, of which there are many of those as well.

Credit Karma, Credit Wise, Credit Sesame all use the Vantage scoring model.  There is a big difference between Vantage and Fico and you can investigate that in due time.  Most lenders still use the FICO model, so for now, there is very little reason to consider the Vantage score as your official credit score.  Now, with that said, there are some changes potentially in 2025, where the Vantage scores may be added to certain mortgage loans.  We’ll just have to wait on that one….

Some of your credit cards do offer free scores, for being one of their customers.  As long as it says FICO then you are good.  Consider these as estimate as well, cause unless the lender pulls the exact same FICO score that your credit card is telling you they will not match.  Then of course, they have to pull the same credit agency as well.  Transunion, Equifax and Experian all will have different scores for you.

As of this blog post, this is the ONLY free legit FICO score I am aware of on the net, where you do not have to give payment information to obtain it.

I believe you get the FICO 8 scoring model, so keep in mind many of your mortgage lenders are using FICO 10 and 10T, so again consider this free score as an estimate.

Good luck and as always if you need assistance don’t hesitate to contact us.
